EuroCC2 Digital Innovation Flagship 2023

EuroCC2 Digital Innovation Flagship 2023 logo

The EuroHPC National Competence Centre (EuroCC) in Ireland run by ICHEC provides high-performance computing and data platforms, technologies and expert support to academic researchers, enterprises and public sector organisations. EuroCC Ireland services include collaboration for co-development and optimisation of computational modelling, data analytics, artificial intelligence, data management and processing, visualisation, prototyping and solution deployment.

Under EuroCC, the Digital Innovation Flagship (DIF) Programme implements a number of lighthouse projects with complex computational workflow and data-centric focus. Projects under the DIF Programme are

  • Collaborative partnerships with ICHEC
  • RD&I challenges with HEIs, enterprises, public sector
  • Data-centric workflows, digital twins, scalable AI & more

A first batch of DIF projects are ongoing between September 2023 and October 2024. The call for these projects is available here.

Objectives & targeted outcomes

Each DIF project will

  • address RD&I problems related to digital twins, hybrid modelling with physics-based and AI models, multi-modal data fusion and model coupling across several domains;
  • focus on advancing the computational and data science, technologies and platforms across domains to serve as exemplars for excellence at national and international levels;
  • bring cutting-edge high-performance computing and data platforms, technologies and expertise from ICHEC and EuroHPC to support solutions co-development;
  • produce the following three outputs:
    1. A technical architecture specification of the application workflow composed of functional details for data and computational pipelines, mechanisms for sourcing and governance of datasets, publishing and visualisation of results, approaches for packaging and deploying the application, and other relevant aspects.
    2. A prototype implementation of a part or whole of the application workflow.
    3. A roadmap to continue further design and implementation of the application workflow beyond the 12-month DIF project targeting additional functionalities, higher-TRL, and increased scalability or performance.
